  • PROJECT

In North East Majorca, at the foot of a mountain in Pollença, surrounded by almond and olive groves, you find a rare pearl of a hotel. Hotel Son Brull occupies a building which housed a monastery in the 12th century, and still contains elements from that time.  Following extensive, careful restoration in 2007, the building was converted into a luxury hotel with 23 rooms. Hotel guests can enjoy the lovely garden, pool and spa during their stay, and dine at the beautifully appointed restaurant, with a first-class kitchen run by head chef Rafael Perelló.

  • LAYOUT & FURNISHINGS

Hotel Son Brull's restaurant, on the ground floor, is rustic and highly refined at the same time. The walls combine local sandstone and smooth white rendered surfaces. The large arched entrance to the restaurant is also framed with sandstone. The floor is made of black concrete, and the ceiling is gilded, producing a warm glow in the room.

The beautiful room contains no disruptive elements and has a simple and elegant design. Diners at the square tables with chalk-white tablecloths are seated on oak Wishbone Chairs. The chair's organic shapes and wood structure form an attractive contrast to the room's hard surfaces. Together with the beautiful scenographic lighting, the chairs provide the soft and sculptural elements in the room.

INTERIOR DESIGNER IGNACIO FORTEZA COMMENTS ON THE CHOICE OF THE WISHBONE CHAIR:

"Essentially the Wishbone Chair was chosen because the wood and the braided seats brought the old island crafts to mind. The shape of the Wishbone Chair was obviously more contemporary, but seems to have been developed in a cabinetmaker's workshop. In the restaurant, the sober and austere lines of the chairs contrast with the splendid gold roof. The CHS furniture contributes to the quiet, contained atmosphere in harmony with the room decor. In addition the Wishbone Chair has become a classic since it was designed in the 50s. We have always enjoyed working with the classical, durable and technologically well resolved furniture from CHS."
