PROJECT
After seven years with a showroom in SoHo in New York City, Carl Hansen & Søn was ready for a change. After moving to a new showroom in the Flatiron District of Manhattan in 2017, the company’s unique furniture collection can now be found in a dignified 16-storey building from 1910 on Park Avenue South where, with its distinctive facade in sandstone, red brick, and decorative ornaments, is classic for the area. The famous landmarks Gramercy Park and Union Square are both just around the corner, and confirm that Carl Hansen & Søn in the USA – as in all the other countries where the company is represented – has chosen an exclusive showroom location.

LAYOUT & FURNISHING
Crossing the threshold of the Carl Hansen & Søn Showroom is like stepping into a light and spacious New Yorker apartment, where you immediately feel like making yourself at home. Daylight floods in through the expansive windows, and is spectacularly reflected by the light, locally produced smoked oak floorboards. The 750-square-meter showroom basically comprises three large rooms, each with its own theme, and all separated by glass sections with steel glazing bars. One room targets the contract market, and here the furniture on display is specifically suited for corporate use. The ‘soft-tone room’ largely features furniture made of woods and furniture fabrics that are strongly associated with the special light, Nordic tone, and the third showroom is dedicated to Hans J. Wegner and his unique significance for Carl Hansen & Søn. Here, selected colorful textiles and other elements are displayed which can inspire the design world to see the furniture’s timeless design in a fresh light. The showroom’s conference room and the Bulthaup kitchen combine white Corian with a beautiful worktop in walnut. In this elegant and stylish space, which provides an ideal setting for various events, all the furniture is also designed by Hans J. Wegner.
